Hi guys! A couple of weeks ago I decided to do a 5 day detox. This was not so much for weight loss reasons as they were for health reasons. However, I think a detox is great for any those of you that are wanting to kickstart a healthy lifestyle or weight loss journey! A detox helps kind of reset your body and be ready for all the healthy things you will be feeding it.
Just as a disclaimer: I am NOT a health professional and this is NOT health advise in any way. I am NOT telling you to do this or suggesting this will work for you – you should seek advise from a professional medical doctor before trying this or any change of eating habits. This was just my experience. π
About the Detox
Okay let’s talk about the detox. Let me just start off by saying this was hard at times, but not impossible! You can always tweak it around for whatever needs you have. This detox was given to my mom by her doctor – and was told this would help her clean out her system and it was used like a reset button. My little brother also did it and they both had amazing results! Here are the details:
- Daily “garlic” juice shot followed by a hot tea
- Vegetables and fruits only!
- No dairy, grains, meat – none of that!
- One banana that week
- 2 Potatoes that week
- Lots of water – all day erryday!
- I was allowed one freshly squeezed juice that week.
So you’re only supposed to eat vegetables and fruits, you are allowed a bit of olive oil and butter during the five days. But you’re not supposed to use any salt or seasoning. I know, it sucks!
About the “Garlic Juice”
The garlic juice consists of the juice of one orange, 2-3 teaspoons of extra virgin olive oil, and 1-2 garlic cloves. I smashed my garlic in a molcajete so I added a little bit of lime juice to make it easier to pour the garlic in the glass. I had this every morning as soon as I woke up. If you like garlic this honestly doesn’t taste that bad. My breath didn’t completely stink but I did burp garlic throughout the day and that was not fun lol Something that helps is tea!
30 minutes after my garlic shot I had a tea, you can have green tea, lemon tea or nettle leaf tea, which is what I had. You’re technically supposed to drink two teas – but between getting ready for work and getting Cami ready I just couldn’t.
What I Ate
I tried to make things that I would actually enjoy and since my mom had done it before she had some great ideas!
I always had fruit for breakfast my go to was red sweet apples. But I also had pineapple and the one day I got to eat a banana it felt like heaven! <3 I snacked A LOT and again it consisted of fruits! My favorite were oranges and cuties.
Lunch consisted of a salad or leftovers from the night before. Since I couldn’t eat any dressing my dad made salsa for me which I used as salad dressing. (He did add some salt to that salsa, but other than that it was all veggies)
Dinner was my favorite! A few things I made were vegetable soup, rajas (corn, poblano peppers, onions, tomatoes sauteed), broccoli and pepper “stir fry” with a side of green peas. My absolute favorite tho was a baked potato with a side of guac. You guys…that was so delicious!!! That night was a movie night and I really wanted an esquite (Mexican style street corn) which is a no-no because it usually calls for mayo and cheese…so I just improvised and added lemon and chilli pepper to it.
I Cheated!
So yes, I did. I cheated. But its okay guys. If cheating a bit here and there meant I was going to finish the full 5 days I was okay with that. So here’s how I cheated…
I had coffee with creamer every morning (broke the no dairy rule). But guys, I can’t function without coffee lol
I also added a tiny bit of salt to the stir fry and the chilli powder had salt in the Mexican corn style I made. I also had half a glass of wine and spoonful of mac and cheese when I went out with my friend. Sigh… it was #worthit
My Results
Something I noticed by the third day was how much energy I had. Normally by 2 or 3 p.m. I used to feel tired, groggy and needed a nap – not anymore. I now feel awake and with energy. It is insane. I also get full faster now.
I lost a total of 5lbs and haven’t gained it back after going back to eating meat and a balanced diet. Here is the (dreaded) before and after lol What I notice the most now is that I don’t feel bloated anymore, my face seems a little bit slimmer and my clothes fit more comfortable now as well π Yaya!
So there you guys have it! That was my 5 day detox experience. I’ve been back to eating a balanced diet the last two weeks and will do another detox in the next two weeks. Probably not as harsh as this one but more of just a “vegan” week. We’ll see what happens with that one. If you guys would like me to keep you updated on my progress be sure to leave me a comment on here or my Instagram @blushingmama!
Love you all! Until next time…
